TRIBUTE TO DR. PAUL LINDSTROM -- IN MEMORIA
In Memory of One of the Pioneers of the Home School Movement
Dr. Paul Lindstrom, home schooling pioneer and founder and president of
the Christian Liberty Academy satellite schools (CLASS), crossed the
finish line and went to be home with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday,
May 22, 2002. After a short battle with a aggressive autoimmune disease
called primary sclerosing cholangitis, he died at 62 years old. He is
survived by his wife, two sons, two daughters, and 17 grandchildren.
Dr. Paul Lindstrom started providing curriculum and legal support to
home schoolers in the early 1970's. In many ways he helped the
Christian home school movement get off the ground. His Christian
correspondence program for home schoolers has approximately 35,000
students at present. Tens of thousands of students have graduated,
being educated in a solid Christian Biblical worldview, through his
program. In addition, he superintended a large Christian school of over
900 students. He pastored the Church of Christian Liberty and
established and directed Christian Liberty Press. He also was involved
in founding mission Christian schools around the world.
I graduated from one of his Christian schools he started in Wisconsin.
That is where I came to know Christ and I am forever grateful.
Home schoolers throughout America own a tremendous debt of gratitude to
this passionate man of God who faced impossible odds beginning in 1969.
He knew that parents had the constitutional right to direct and control
the education of their children and would not accept "no" from the
states and school districts that prohibited home schooling. He
faithfully worked as an ally with HSLDA, fighting for the rights of home
schoolers.
Dr. Paul Lindstrom was a remarkably humble man, never attempting to
grasp the limelight for all his work in the home school movement. He
simply wanted to serve faithfully and diligently in everything he put
his hand to. Dr. Paul Lindstrom has run the race well and has crossed
the finish line. He is where he always wanted to be and does not want
to return. He is no doubt experiencing unspeakable joy. As it states
in 1 Corinthians 2:9, "Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor have entered
into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those who
love Him."
Furthermore, in Revelation 21:4 there is the promise, "And God will
wipe away every tear from their eyes; there will be no more death, nor
sorrow, nor crying; there shall be no more pain, for the former things
have passed away." No doubt Dr. Lindstrom is safe from all harm in the
arms of the Savior.
We praise God for the life of Dr. Paul Lindstrom. As it says in Psalm
116:15, "Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints."
