Homeschooling Heroes is a loosely organized group of families committed to teaching their children outside of the traditional school structure. We’re an inclusive resource for families seeking exceptional educational and extracurricular opportunities outside of the typical co-op structure. There are no fees or time commitments beyond what’s required for the courses and events that you choose to sign up for. All homeschooling and unschooling families are welcome to join. The group has no political, religious or schooling preferences. It is a place to share a variety of options and appreciate differences.

If our group members have one thing they all AGREE on, it’s that we have too many wonderful activities to choose from! Pricing for each ranges from FREE to discounted group rates (typically a bit below what you’d get approaching these places on your own). Which places? Well, we we’ve partnered with some incredible businesses, colleges, artists, technology leaders and creatives over the past 18 months, and plan to expand those relationships as we progress! Check out our group classes and recurring events (listed below) to give you a sense of the breadth and depth of what we offer and to help us dispel one of the biggest misconceptions we seek to shatter – the socialization myth.

Kids in Homeschooling Heroes range from toddler to teen and are actively engaged in multi-age group activities most days – and with other children from various socioeconomic backgrounds. And when not engaged in group activities, you’ll find some hitting the books just like they would in a traditional school, while others may “unschool” to some degree, with learning directed by a child’s interests. This can take the form of thematic units about butterflies, for example, spanning science, physics, history, etc, with butterflies as the conduit for this learning, or it could be an unplanned exploration of whatever one finds interesting that day, with math (or whichever subject one feels needs attention) thrown in for good measure. Or it can be entirely undefined to the point where an outsider may wonder if learning is actually taking place. (It is. Read up on how Elon Musk does it with his kids!)

And it’s important to note, that although we’re based in New Orleans, we have plans to expand across the U.S. and internationally to accommodate traveling homeschoolers and create opportunities that mesh with the unique learning lifestyle many of us pursue! Join us! How? Find us at homeschoolingheroes.com and on Facebook, Instagram, Youtube, Twitter, Tumbler, Pinterest and Snapchat! We have a public page and also a private group and online calendar where we share events with other parents. Access to the group page and our calendar where we post activities is limited to homeschool families though for safety reasons.

Thanks and look forward to meeting you!
